The whole route is approximately 100 miles long running from Bristol to Lynton where it joins the South West Coast path. Visitors wishing to do the whole West Somerset section could join it at Goathurst, 4 miles west of Bridgwater, and follow it over the Quantocks, Brendons and Exmoor enjoying magnificent scenery and the attractive villages hidden in their folds.
It uses many existing rights of way and overlaps other trails such as the Macmillan Way West and the Coleridge Way and is a challenge, but nevertheless a joy for both the serious and the occasional walker.
A pocket size book by Graham Hoyle entitled Samaritans Way South West- A walk from Bristol to Lynton is available through www.bristolramblers.org.uk/bookssamway.html
