Linking major pre-historic sites in Western Britain, 'the Celtic Way' combines walking routes from West Wales to Stonehenge and on down through Wessex. At over 700 miles long it is a major undertaking to complete but provides a fascinating insight into the 'Ways' of the earliest travellers. It is one of the longest long-distance footpaths in Britain and largely unheralded but could be walked in short sections during those welcome weekend breaks. Discover ancient sites of Celtic and Neolithic history, follow in the footsteps of Alfred's subjects and experience the aura of this ancient land.
The scenery is pretty special too and incorporates the Exmoor Option which is 63 miles starting at Glastonbury, through the Somerset levels, the Quantocks and Exmoor bringing you down to Dartmoor at Grimspound and Hound Tor via 'The Two Moors Way'.
A completed book, with walking details and descriptions of historical features was published in 1998 by Sigma Press ISBN:1-850558-618-7 ( Val Saunders Evans) but is out of print and is best sourced through second hand sites. Information about the route can be obtained at www.celticway.org/
